Possible Sanctions

A board will sanction licensees if it finds they have committed violations of the Board's regulations or the statute.
           Some sanctions include:

  1. An issuance of a public reprimand - the board, however, must establish a procedure by which the licensee may petition the board to have the reprimand taken off his or her record.
  2. A maximum fine of $500 unless a statute or board regulation imposes a higher fine.
  3. Probation or restriction or suspension of the license for a definite or indefinite time - during this time the licensee may have to meet certain requirements to get the license reinstated such as additional education or a supervisory period.
  4. Permanent revocation of the license.

Keep in mind that a majority of the all board members must approve a sanction. Once the board issues a final order approving the sanction, the action becomes public information. Even if a board finds that a sanction is not appropriate, it may still send the licensee a nondisciplinary letter of caution.
